Statewide Bicycle Information Sources

Wisconsin Department of Transportation publishes county maps rating roads for bicycling, as well as maps of the Great River Road.

Wisconsin Tourism Department list of bike trails and routes. Every year the state puts out a booklet with maps of bike trails, road routes, and mountain bike trails. The routes change from year to year. This site includes routes shown in earlier booklets.

Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin with information on bicycling and links to other sites. A particular emphasis is encouraging bicycling to work. The major bicycling advocacy group in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources list of maps of state parks and state trails.

Bike the Hoan. A site advocating construction of a bike lane on the Hoan Bridge that connects downtown Milwaukee with the Bay View neighborhood.

Brookfield Greenways. Bike trails in Brookfield.

Milwaukee Bicycle Trip Planner. A routing tool for bicycle trips in Milwaukee. (This site went down in July 2011. It is unclear whether it will be restored.)

Fox Cities Greenways has information on bicycle trails in Appleton and surrounding areas.

Fox River Trail and links to other trails in the Green Bay area.

Driftless Region Bicycle Coalition. Information on bicycling in southwestern Wisconsin, including links to route maps.

Milwaukee Without a Car, although not really a bike site has a wealth of information for those who are trying to get somewhere without a car.

Bicycle Organizations and Organized Bike Rides

Bike Wisconsin sponsors three week-long trips: GRABAAWR along the Wisconsin River, SAGBRAW from Marinette to Port Washington, and Bike Northwoods.

Bay View Bicycle Club. Rides in Milwaukee and surrounding counties.

Bicycle Club of Lake County. Rides in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.

Cream City Bicycle Club. Rides in the Milwaukee area.

Fox Cities Cycling Club. A Recreational Bike Club in Appleton and the Fox Cities of Wisconsin

Jefferson County Bicycle Club

KR (Kenosha Racine) Bike Club. Rides in Racine and Kenosha counties.

McHenry Bicycle Club. Rides in northern Illinois and Lake Geneva area. Publishes maps and cue-sheets of some rides. (I wish other bike clubs would do this.)

Pedal Across Wisconsin offers a number of week-long and shorter rides around Wisconsin.

Trempealeau Trails offers rides and maps

Long Distance Bicycle Routes: US and the World

Eurovelo is an international effort to develop twelve long-distance routes throughout Europe. Charming initial reports sketching out the first two routes (Norway-Scotland-Ireland-Wales-France-Spain-Portugal and Norway-Finland-Sweden-Denmark-Germany-Czech Republic-Austria-Italy-Malta.

The East Coast Greenway is a project to connect bicycle trails running from Maine to Florida.

Adventure Cycling has prepared maps on bike routes crossing the United States, including segments in northern Wisconsin.

New York and Pennsylvania have mapped and marked bike routes crossing their states.
